WPSL: 2026 Finals Weekend Preview
Founded in 1998, the Women’s Premier Soccer League looks to crown its champion for the year. 144 Clubs battled for just a few months, sometimes playing two or three games a week, to get to this point. Riverside Stadium in Riverside, Missouri plays host to the 19th Championship Final and four teams look to leave with the title.
The WPSL Semifinals kick off with a 9am game between NY Athletic Club and Georgia Impact. NY Athletic Club went 7-0-1 and won their Metropolitan Conference; scoring 26 goals and giving up 5. They are led by Dylan Jovanovic, who netted 10 times this season and she added an assist. Both Kayla Wong and Josie Tunney scored 4 goals a piece and 7 other players added 8 more to the tally. They knocked out CT Rush and Pennsylvania Classics to get to Riverside.
Georgia Impact are winners of the Southeast Conference, going 7-0-1 for the year. They knocked out Little Rock Rangers and former WPSL Champions, Pensacola FC (2018) to get to the semis. Impact are the lowest scoring team in the finals (just 20), and have also given up the most (11), with a +9GD. Mireya Stephenson scored 5 for the club, Ines Obradovac added 4 of her own, and 7 other players chipped in 11 more.
Kansas City Current II, who come into the final four as the lowest seed, host the legendary California Storm on Saturday, July 18th at 11:30am. Led by Avery Clark with 14 goals (second in the Golden Boot race), KC went 7-2-1 in league play and won the Midwest Conference - Heartland Division. With 36 goals for and allowing 6 all season, they have a +30 goal differential - KC beat a very tough Austin Rise FC away and Salvo SC away to earn their place at the proverbial table this weekend.
League co-founders and all time record holders, California Storm, have been to 9 league finals, won 5 (1999, 2002, 2004, 2022, and 2024) and lost in the WPSL Final last year to Sporting CT. These killers from the Golden State went unbeaten in league play (9-1-0), racked up 40 goals and only allowed 3 against - +37GD. Both Kennedy Mayo and Dalia Asad scored 7 goals, while Camryn Dillingham added 5 of her own, showing that goals can come from anywhere for the Storm. Team legends Alex Morgan, Brandi Chastain, Sissi, and Julie Foudy will be looking on as California Storm seek their 10th title.
The winners of game one, NY Athletic Club vs Georgia Impact SC will take on winners of game two, KC Current II vs California Storm, for the WPSL Final on Sunday, July 19th. Check the WPSL Website after those matches for a possible stream for the Final.
