Who Are Ya!: Geranium City FC (UPSL W)
While Geranium City is backed by Georgia Revolution and shares many common values, it was built to have an identity to call its own. Propped up by Community and Opportunity, President of the club, Sadie Morrison tells us why that is so important and where this brand new club is headed.
Tell us the origin story of Geranium City FC - when was it founded? By whom and what is its mission?
Geranium City FC was founded in 2025 by a group of dedicated leaders from Georgia Revolution FC who believed our community deserved more opportunities for women to enjoy the game they love.
As we grew the Georgia Revolution FC girls' youth academy, we noticed a clear lack of opportunities for women once they graduate from high school and college. There were dozens of semi-professional opportunities for men throughout Georgia, but nearly none for women, and none south of Atlanta.
Geranium City FC was created to bridge the gap between youth soccer, the college game, and the professional level while giving local players a place to continue competing at a high level. Our roster is primarily made up of players from our own community, including current college athletes, former collegiate athletes, national team members, and even several exceptional high school players who have earned the opportunity to train and compete alongside experienced talent.
We wanted the women's program to have its own identity, so we named the club for McDonough's nickname, "The Geranium City," gave it its own badge and colors, and built it with the full backing of Georgia Revolution FC behind it. Everything we do comes back to two pillars: community and opportunity. That means a free college recruiting showcase for our youth and adult players, academy players training directly with the First Team, and a place for women to keep competing after high school and college. This fall, that mission takes another step forward as the entire Georgia Revolution girls' academy moves under Geranium City FC, making us the first all-girls academy in Metro Atlanta, feeding directly into our First Team.
Tell us about your badge and colors – how does it connect to the community?
As a brand new club, our badge was built from scratch for our inaugural season. We wanted to honor our connection to Georgia Revolution FC while also creating something uniquely our own. The centerpiece of our crest is a geranium blooming from a soccer ball. It represents both the city's nickname, "The Geranium City," and the deep soccer roots that continue to grow throughout our community. Our colors, Midnight Navy, Natural Cream, and Geranium Red, represent strength, growth, and the passion behind the club.
What league or leagues does your club participate in and why did you choose those to join?
Geranium City FC competes in the UPSL Women (UPSLW), while our men's side competes in the UPSL Premier Division. Joining UPSLW felt like a natural fit because the league shares many of the same values we do. They’re dedicated to expanding opportunities for women while also supporting community-based clubs.
Our goal has always been to provide local players with a high-level, professional environment where they can continue developing without having to leave home. UPSLW allows our players to compete against quality competition while representing their community.
How does the club cover its costs, and how can people support you?
Like many independent clubs, Geranium City FC is powered by the people around us. Community partnerships, local sponsors, merchandise sales, and replica kits all help us grow and reinvest in our players and community programs.
That support ensures our First Team players, men and women alike, never have to pay to play. We cover it, because we want them to have as close to a professional experience as we can offer at the grassroots level. Training tops, video analysis, media day, team lunches on home match days, and more come at no cost to the player.
The best way to support our club is simply to be a part of it. Come to a match (they’re FREE!), bring your family, tell a friend about us, wear our kit, engage with us on social media, purchase merch, or partner with us as a local business.
Every bit of support helps us continue providing free home matches, creating opportunities for local players, and expanding access to soccer throughout Henry County! We want this club to belong to the community, which is why we keep building new ways for our partners and sponsors to be part of the matchday experience.
How did you finish last year and what are your goals for next season?
It's hard to imagine a better inaugural season. We remained undefeated from preseason through conference play, ending the season with a 5-1-0 record and scoring 23 goals along the way. We won both the Georgia Conference Regular Season and Playoff Championship titles. From there, we qualified for the UPSLW National Finals in Irvine after knocking off an unbeaten Mid-Atlantic champion.
We averaged around 350 fans per match in our first season, and we hope to continue to grow our attendance in future seasons. There are mini fields set up so kids can get touches in while the game is going on, and we host a halftime crossbar challenge for our youth supporters each match. Our community has supported us since day one, and we couldn’t be more thankful!
How does Geranium City FC participate in or give back to their community?
Through our non-profit, we are able to provide multiple ways to access soccer in our community. We operate a free after-school soccer program in partnership with Henry County Schools, introducing hundreds of third through fifth graders to the game each year. Every season concludes with a community-wide jamboree and 7v7 tournament that gives these students the chance to represent their schools and celebrate everything they've learned. We partner with a local business to run concessions, and also provide the winning team with medals.
We're also proud to have partnered with the Atlanta United Community Fund and the City of McDonough in 2025 to build a turf mini-pitch just off the historic McDonough Square.
That space has become a true gathering place for soccer in Henry County. We host free soccer clinics, pickup soccer, leagues, open play, and more for the local community. The mini-pitch is open to everyone, regardless of age or experience. The days of jumping fences just to kick a ball are over!
Several of our First Team players also coach in the academy, giving younger players direct access to the pathway they're chasing.
If there were one or two teams, within a 100 miles of you, to play a friendly against – who would you play and why?
Without a doubt, we would love to play the newly minted NWSL Atlanta side during their preseason.
Our men’s program has had the opportunity to play Atlanta United, Atlanta United 2, Chattanooga FC, and numerous college teams, and we'd love to create those same kinds of experiences for our women's side!
A bit farther out, but we’d also love to play Carolina Ascent FC. They've built an exciting brand and culture around women's soccer, and their overall vibe is just cool! We’d love to see the two of us side by side. Up the Blooms!
