Who Are Ya!: Virginia Beach United (USLL2 & USLWL)
For the second time in the club’s history, Virginia Beach United’s men’s squad qualified for the USL League Two playoffs. They went away to Patuxent and won 4-0, finishing second in a very competitive Chesapeake Division. Before they head into their first playoff game, they took the time to tell us all about their club.
Tell us the origin story of Virginia Beach United - when was it founded? By whom and what is its mission?
Virginia Beach United was founded in 2019 by two local youth soccer club owners with the mission to unite local players and build a pathway extending beyond youth soccer—something previously undone in our area.
Tell us about your badge and colors – how does it connect to the community?
Our logo was designed by our first USL2 coach and we received the USL2 new badge of the year for it. It signifies the combination of local Rush (blue) and Beach (red) players who make up a large part of our club. The colors red, white, blue also signify the strong military presence in our community.
What league or leagues does your club participate in and why did you choose those to join?
VB United plays in the USL League Two and USL W leagues. Both leagues provide a highly competitive environment for our collegiate student-athletes to thrive in during their off season, keeping their skills sharp as they prepare the fall.
How does the club stay funded and how can our readers support you?
We love us a replica jersey and so do our fans!! (See their Jersey Auction)
How did you finish last year and what are your goals for the 2026 season?
Our USL W team had its first ever season and performed well. They are showing great improvement this season with a 3-2-0 record thus far. Our USL2 squad enjoyed great success last season, including winning the COVA Challenge Cup by beating division rivals Lionsbridge at Lionsbridge for the trophy (which they conveniently didn't have available after our win). Our goals for this season include surpassing our 2024 playoff run and making a deep post season push.
How does Virginia Beach United participate in or give back to their community?
Our USL2 and USLW players regularly participate in community service and awareness activities, including visiting local schools to help grow the beautiful game as well as giving away youth tickets to children in our area so they can have access to watching fun and high-level soccer.
If there were one or two teams, within a 100 miles of you, to play a friendly against – who would you play and why?
Our USL2 Coach Chris Mills said, "we'd love a friendly against the Richmond Kickers to see how we match up with a team a level above us."
