Who Are Ya!: 512 FC (MASL W)

January 12, 2026 by Joshua Duder

Four women decided to re-write the narrative when their team’s owner stepped down - they decided to create something fresh and new for the women of Austin. Co-founder of 512 FC, Brittany Flowers, took the time to answer our questions and share with us how they launched this new indoor soccer side for Bat City.

When was 512 FC founded? By whom and what was its mission?
512 Football Club (512FC) was founded in 2024 by Brittany Flowers, Megan Fox, Katy Mendoza and Caitlin Sawyer, four players united by a shared goal: bringing high-level arena soccer to the Austin community. After learning that the owner of their previous semi-professional indoor team planned to step away, they chose to create a new club of their own, taking on the dual roles of founders and players. Beyond their responsibilities as players, the founders also take on the work that keeps the club running including designing the logo, managing social media, creating content, organizing equipment and uniforms, coaching, and handling countless behind-the-scenes tasks.

Tell us about your badge and colors – how does it connect to the community?
Our badge was created by founder Katy Mendoza with the goal of capturing the spirit of Austin. The name 512FC features the city's area code, while the bat over water is a shout out to Austin's famous bat population and one of its most popular attractions. We chose black and turquoise to set ourselves apart from other high-level Austin soccer teams: Austin FC (MLS), whose colors are black and verde, and Austin Rise FC (WPSL), whose colors are red and navy.

What league or leagues does your club participate in and why did you choose those to join?
We play in the MASLW (Major Arena Soccer League for Women), a fast-paced, competitive indoor league that runs from December through March, featuring top-tier women's teams from across the country. We play in the South Division which includes teams from Dallas, Houston, and Monterrey Mexico. Our league falls under the umbrella of the well-established MASL, Men's Arena Soccer League.

Many clubs choose to sell hats, scarves or replica kits - how does your club keep the lights on and cover its league costs? How can interested people support you?
As a nonprofit organization, we rely entirely on sponsorships and donations to operate. We are incredibly grateful to our jersey sponsor, Torchy’s Tacos. Without their support, 512FC wouldn’t be here today. We are actively seeking additional sponsors to help cover essential costs such as facility rentals, referee fees, and equipment. Supporting our team means investing in a dream shared by passionate players who love this sport and are working to grow arena soccer in Austin. We are proudly 100% women-owned and women-run. Businesses or individuals interested in partnering with us can find our sponsorship form here.

How did you finish last season and what’s your plan for improvement?
We enter our sophomore season as clear underdogs. While we were competitive last year, we unfortunately didn't secure a win. (Who doesn't love a good underdog story?!) Competing in a division filled with talented and highly competitive teams pushes us to elevate our game and inspires us to reach the next level. We have new players and whole new energy going into this season.

How do you participate in, or give back to your community?
We have partnered with Austin Community Soccer Association to put together one of the most fun soccer tournaments this city has ever seen. It's called the Tournament of Terrors and is a Halloween tournament benefiting Equality Texas. Teams were highly encouraged to wear and play in costumes. Last year the team that won had a keeper in an inflatable panda costume. (She's also the keeper for our MASLW team). Other than tournaments benefiting local organizations, we have many players that also coach the youth of Austin.

If there were one or two teams, within a 100 miles of you, to play a friendly against – who would you play and why?
If we could play against any team it would be the Iowa Demon Hawks. We have a connection with them through TST and Austin Rise FC. Their owner, Darwin Salas has the most contagious energy. Cukuuuuu!
