Who Are Ya!: West Texas FC (USL League Two)

February 02, 2026 by Joshua Duder

As we continue to get to know soccer in Texas, we are happy to share West Texas FC with you and as they would tell you, “West Texas is the Best Texas.” Club Director, Melissa Milan, was kind enough to take the time to answer our questions.

Tell us the origin story of your club - when was the club founded? By whom and what was its mission?
West Texas FC was founded in 2023 in Midland, Texas under(owners) Jason and Melina Cannon and (Director) Melissa Milan. The mission was to bring back high-level soccer to West Texas and bring the community together with the love of soccer in the city that we know and love.

What league or leagues does your club participate in and why did you choose those to join?
West Texas FC has been under the National Premier Soccer League since 2023 playing in one of the most competitive conferences in the nation.

(West Texas FC were announced as a part of the newly formed “Ranger Division” in USL League Two on January 27th, 2026. They are still listed on the NPSL website as a part of the Lone Star Division)

Many clubs choose to sell hats, scarves or replica kits - how does your club keep the lights on and cover its league costs? How can interested people support you?
West Texas FC merch favorites are the replica fan jerseys, caps, scarves, and flags. In the 2025 season, new merch of fan noise makers and West Texas tees were a hit! We have some new merch coming out in the 2026 season, and they can be purchased on the online store or on game days!

How did you finish last year? What are the goals for your next season?
West Texas FC won the first seed in the Lone Star Conference in 2025. We hope to continue growing as a club and look to bring home more trophies!

How do you participate in, or give back to your community?
West Texas FC is active in the community through local school districts, The local food banks, museums like the Petroleum Museum and Museum of the Southwest by participating in community events such as Family Fun Friday and Family Science Nights, as well as our local soccer associations where we help build and support young athletes. We work closely with the local brewery, Tall City Brewing Co, and local run club 432 Run Crew, participating in local community events, fun runs, Bingo nights and more! Every year, we host 3-4 cost free camps for the local youth to be able to have the opportunity to come out and learn from the best in West Texas without the worry of payment and give the kids and their families the experience of a lifetime. The first year, we had over 1,000 kids register within 24 hours.

If there were one or two teams, within a 100 miles of you, to play a friendly against – who would you play and why?
Midland/Odessa is kind of out here on it's own, but Lubbock is the next biggest city. Texas is a large state, and we have the joke (yet factual) that everything is a 5-hour drive. (Tall City has a beer named this).  Playing a friendly with New Mexico or El Paso could be fun!
