Brett's Indiana Soccer Update: April '26
League play begins, the US Open Cup comes and goes, and the USL Cup lingers on the horizon. It’s good to have soccer back once again in the Circle City

On March 12th, Indy Eleven acquired defender Mikah Thomas on loan from MLS side Charlotte FC. He played for Crown Legacy FC in MLS NEXT Pro in 2025 with forward Dylan Sing. Thomas tarted 14 of 22 matches with two goals, two assists, 15 key passes, and 12 fouls won in 1,333 minutes. He’ll look to add some depth to a defense that will be hurting without key defender Pat Hogan.

After a month of action, the problems that plagued Indy in 2025 are still present. An attack that relies on the counter (even against smaller teams like Des Moines or Omaha) and a defense that constantly looks to filling holes sounds a lot like 2025’s story.
Kizza continues to not put away chances provided to him. Scoreless in his 5 appearances this season. A story told a thousand times in 2025 was missing chances created, Kizza and the team’s performance at Brooklyn are great examples of that.
However, Bruno Rendon is shining up top and really stepping up as Blake was out all month. Notching 2 goals and an assist in the month, he was consistently the best player on the pitch. Eric Dick is looking to be solid as McAuley continues to find his best backline with Hogan’s injury.
Okello looks to be a natural fit in the midfield. Whether that be with Lindley, O’Brien or Quinn, the Canadian has cemented his place. As Blake comes back, I expect to see a midfield of Okello, Lindley and Blake. I really like that.
Indy’s bench seems to be having more of an impact this season. In the match against Hartford, Mitrano came on at halftime and played a massive part in allowing Rendon to play further up where Lindley would eventually find Okello for their equalizing goal. Same with Thomas who played 3 minutes before getting an assist to Rendon. Mensanvi’s break out performance versus Des Moines got everyone’s attention, and the 22 year-old earned himself a start in that Hartford match.
Getting a win versus Detroit City and a point on the road at Hartford will prove vital come the playoff push. Losing in the Open Cup stings, but now the team can focus on winning the USL Cup and getting themselves back to a top-4 spot in the Eastern Conference.
Men’s Player of the Month - Bruno Rendon
Schedule for April - Men
USL-C: Apr 4th vs Pittsburgh Riverhounds
USL-C: Apr 11th vs Monterey Bay FC
USL-C: Apr 19th at Brimingham Legion FC
USL-Cup: Apr 25th vs Union Omaha
Please tune back in for May’s update.
Thanks!
