The history of the San Francisco Soccer League runs deep, but so do their divisions, with old and new clubs alike. Founded recently, Kopê FC, play in the First Division of the SFSFL (below the Majors and Premier Divisions). We loved the badge and shirt so much we just had to know more and Riley Sanders took the time to tell us the story of the club he founded.

Tell us the origin story of Kopê FC - when was it founded? By whom and what is its mission?
Kopê FC was founded by Riley Sanders in the summer of 2025 with a mission to create an environment where men with 9-to-5 jobs could look forward to playing proper football, competing at a high level, and making new friends along the way.Kopê FC was founded by Riley Sanders in the summer of 2025 with a mission to create an environment where men with 9-to-5 jobs could look forward to playing proper football, competing at a high level, and making new friends along the way.

Tell us about your badge and colors – how does it connect to the community?
Our primary color is green or “Kopê Green”, named after our sponsor, the Hayes Valley coffee shop, Kopê House. Three Bay Area locals, Carlos, Jared, and Alex opened Kopê House in 2026. Go check it out!

What league or leagues does your club participate in and why did you choose those to join?
Kopê competes in the SFSFL, a competitive men's league in San Francisco. Joining the SFSFL was a no-brainer; the league has been the flagship men's league since 1902 in SF and provides high quality 11’s football.

How does the club cover its costs, and how can people support you?
Kits will be for sale soon at Kopê House. The club supports itself by a mix of player contribution and help from the lads at Kopê House. People can support us by following us at kopefc on instagram and pulling up to our games… especially at our home field, Beach Chalet. We get rowdy!

How did you finish last year and what are your goals for next season?
We finished third out of twelve teams in the third division of the SFSFL. Our main goal is to be promoted to the majors division next season.

How does Kopê FC participate in or give back to their community?
We promote an amazing local coffee shop that was created by three bay area locals that deeply care about San Francisco. We offer an eclectic atmosphere on Sundays to hang out and cheer on some great guys. Pull UP!

If there were one or two teams, within a 100 miles of you, to play a friendly against – who would you play and why?
Norcal Shockwaves (specifically, their open cup roster).
