Who Are Ya!: Worcester Wanderers (United Women's Soccer)

June 15, 2026 by Joshua Duder

Today we meet UWS side Worcester Wanderers. Freshmen to the league, Wanderers represent Central Massachusetts and even though the club is new, founders Greg and Julia have plenty of experience at this level.

Tell us the origin story of the Worcester Wanderers - when was it founded? By whom and what was its mission?
Wanderers was found in Feb of 2026 by myself and my wife, Greg and Julia Margolis. We are originally from Massachusetts and my wife grew up right outside of Worcester, in Auburn, Massachusetts. We are both lovers of the game of soccer and have dedicated our careers to working in college athletics. Over the past two years, I have coached in the UWS and the USL-W with FC Berlin and FC Buffalo respectively, during our time living and working in Buffalo, NY.

We felt that central Massachusetts was a perfect spot to bring a pre-professional women's team, as the closest option for a major of people is the New England Mutiny. So the biggest thing we wanted to do was provide opportunity for women to play and train at a high level during the summer months. On top of that, it is in our scope to really connect with the community over the coming years and foster a sense of buy in that helps showcases how amazing the women are who participate on the Wanderers team and in our organization as we grow.

Tell us about your badge and colors – how does it connect to the community?
Worcester is the Heart of the Commonwealth, so we want to showcase that in a few ways. One, the heart on our badge and two the heart and green colors that are in the Worcester, Massachusetts flag are our dominant color schemes for our badge and jerseys. Worcester also has Seven Hills that run through the city, so you'll notice the 7 peaks in our badge as well. Wanderers is a common soccer name and throughout the region, we have ample wildlife that roams through and we felt a Coyote showcased that wanderering nature the best!

What league or leagues does your club participate in and why did you choose those to join?
We compete in the UWS league in our inaugural season. This fit for us best due to the limited travel in the league and the competitive level we were looking for! It has been a great fit and we have started the season very strong in our first year!

How does the club stay funded and how can our readers support you?
We do have a team store which can be found at worcesterwanderersfc.com. We sell all sorts of apparel there that can help us create the best opporunity of our players. We are always open to conversations about sponsorships which are the true way we can make this possible in our early days!

How have you started your inaugural schedule and what are your goals for the 2026 season?
First season for us and we have started the year 2-1!

How do San Francisco Nighthawks participate in or give back to their community?
Early days for us, but our future focus is to run free soccer clinics for youth in the Worcester community. We also want to volunteer at various women's facilities in the area moving forward as well.

If there were one or two teams, within a 100 miles of you, to play a friendly against – who would you play and why?
I would say how cool their environment looks, Vermont Green would be a fun matchup!! Long term I know Heart of Pines are developing a women's program as well and believe that would be a great experience too!
