Who Are Ya!: Baltimore City FC (APSL and MSSL)
Tell us the origin story of Baltimore City FC - when was it founded? By whom and what was its mission?
Baltimore City FC was founded in 2023 by some over-achieving sunday league players, some bored out of their mind soccer fans with Covid-induced cabin-fever and a DIY Punk background, and a collection of local businesses eager to tap into the historic soccer culture the city cherishes. A simple but ambitious vision has always been to build a sustainable community-driven club that represents Baltimore on and off the field. From the beginning, the mission has been to combine competitive success with community impact and to push this grassroots efforts as far as it can go.
Tell us about your badge and colors – how does it connect to the community?
It's actually a new badge released this year! Lots of little easter eggs in the logo but primarily you have the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse which like the badge, is in the center of the City. The helm represents the direction and maritime history of the city, and the anchor our founding in 2023. The colors are that of the Baltimore Flag. Though originally the maroon red was to be an homage to the rowhouses of the city, it ended up being necessary because our home field is now a brilliant golden yellow.
What league or leagues does your club participate in and why did you choose those to join?
Baltimore City F.C. participates in the newly formed Maryland Division of the American Premier Soccer League (though BCFC has been participating there since early 2024). The second team competes in the Maryland Super Soccer League. Both are accessible, cherish identity, and look to create a mix of competition and branding without compromising, and remain at an agreeable price and management unlike some competitors.
How did you finish last year? What are the goals for your next season?

How does Baltimore City FC participate in or give back to their community?
We are proud and thrilled to announce that we are one of the teams at this level in our area that draws a crowd and jerseys seen at the bars on gameday. We've leveraged so much of the spotlight on our success on and off the field to just grow bigger and better to make for a fantastic organic gameday atmosphere at Utz Field. The regular winning and constant championship finals appearances help a lot. Next up is a title and a new home, that's the aim, and break that 500 attendance mark.
Community is at the core of BCFC. The club actively looks for ways to engage and give back, whether through youth development opportunities, partnerships with local organizations, or creating accessible soccer experiences in the city. We run a lot of free clinics in Patterson Park and are looking to expand that programming throughout the city as well as hosting camps not just for the kids, but for prospective coaches too.
If there were one or two teams, within a 100 miles of you, to play a friendly against – who would you play and why?
We have in 3 short years competed against many of the clubs we have wanted to. A win in the charm city derby against Christos FC is a must this year, but beyond that a match against Loudon United or the Maryland Bobcats would be super fun.
