Further Elaborated Update on the Indy Eleven Men

July 03, 2025 by Joshua Duder
  • June Record: 2-1-2

  • US Open Cup: Round of 32 (eliminated)

  • USL Jager Cup: 2-1-0, 8 points, 1st place Group 3

  • USL Championship Record (W-D-L): 3-5-5, 14 points, 9th place East

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – June saw an Indy side pick up some important wins vs Birmingham and Pittsburgh, while also losing at a struggling Tampa side. In their wins, Indy was able to get quick 1-0 leads and rely on their defense to hold out for 1-0 wins.

For this Eleven side, however locked in defensively there will determine how good this team can be. As it stands, the midfield doesn't quite control the midfield and becomes way too chaotic but seeing more Cam Lindley has helped stabilize them a bit. Either it's Kizza or Amoh up front, Indy's offense has been inconsistent - much like the defense - and tend to fade away when Indy needs them to step up.

When the opposing team is pressing and applying pressure on Sulte and the backline, the midfield needs to better control the match and the frontline needs to provide opportunities in order to give breaks to the defense. Too many times Indy appears to just give up offensively in the 55th-60th minute and just park the bus. This has resulted in far too many draws for a good attacking side, but far too often they would rather hold out for a 1-0 win instead of going for a 2-0 lead (look at the most recent USL-Cup match vs Birmingham as a perfect example of this).

The team was able to win their 2nd and 3rd matches of the league, then they also lost twice. The loss at Tampa really hurt. Yes I know Indy hasn't won in Tampa in years and it had been weather delayed and it was a Wednesday Night match, but Indy has failed to show up against the poor performing sides all year. When Hartford came to town, it was the craziest match this year ending in a 4-4 draw when Indy should have secured 3 points. Add in the loss to Tampa, and it appears Indy cannot compete with the best, and they play down to their competition who they should beat.

Indy desperately is needing some consistency in league play if they want to avoid a playoff battle. 6th place is only 3 points away, and 5th is only 6. July won’t be easy as Indy play Rhode Island and travel to a good North Carolina FC side.
